FAQs

  • A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) with extensive training in mental health diagnosis and treatment. Because of this training — including residency (3-4 years) and, for child/adolescent psychiatry, specialized fellowship (2 years) — psychiatrists are uniquely equipped to evaluate complex presentations, integrate biological and psychosocial factors, and provide expert consultation when prior care has left questions unanswered. Psychiatrists can prescribe medications and incorporate therapeutic strategies as part of a thoughtful, individualized care plan.

  • I work with children, adolescents, and adults across a range of psychiatric concerns, particularly when symptoms are complex, overlapping, or have not responded as expected to prior treatment.

Common areas of consultation include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and neurodevelopmental differences. Care is especially focused on situations involving diagnostic uncertainty, partial treatment response, medical or developmental complexity, or questions about next steps.

  • Yes. As a board-certified psychiatrist, I can prescribe medication when clinically appropriate. Medication decisions are made thoughtfully and in the context of diagnostic clarity, individual goals, and relevant medical or developmental factors.

Because this is a consultative practice, prescriptions and refills are provided only after an initial evaluation and establishment of care. If you need medication refills before that process is complete, please continue to work with your current prescriber.

  • I integrate psychotherapeutic strategies into my psychiatric consultations when clinically appropriate. However, this practice is not structured to provide ongoing, standalone psychotherapy.

When longer-term or more intensive therapy is recommended, I work collaboratively with patients and families to identify appropriate referrals.

  • No. Reflective Psychiatry is an out-of-network, self-pay practice.

This model allows me to provide personalized, confidential, and consultative psychiatric care without the time constraints or treatment limitations imposed by insurance companies. It enables more time for thorough evaluations, individualized treatment planning, and collaboration with families, schools, and other involved providers when appropriate.

Payment is due at the time of service, and a credit card is required on file prior to the first evaluation. Superbills are available upon request. A superbill is a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.

If you plan to seek reimbursement, you may wish to contact your insurance company in advance and ask:

    • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

    • What percentage of the fee may be reimbursed?

    • Is there a deductible I must meet first?

    • What is the process for submitting a claim?

Choosing an out-of-network, self-pay practice reflects a preference for care that is individualized and clinically driven rather than insurance-directed. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about this process.

  • No. Reflective Psychiatry does not participate in Medicaid, Medicare, or any insurance networks. All services are provided on a self-pay basis.

If you have out-of-network benefits through a private insurance plan, you may request a superbill for possible reimbursement. Unfortunately, Medicare and Medicaid do not offer out-of-network reimbursement for services provided by non-participating clinicians.

  • Fees vary depending on the type of consultation and the clinical complexity of care. Because this is a consultative practice, services are individualized rather than standardized.

You are welcome to contact the office for current fee information. In accordance with the No Surprises Act, a Good Faith Estimate is available upon request.

  • Yes. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) may be used to pay for eligible services. Please check with your provider to ensure coverage.

  • Yes. Appointments are offered both via secure video and in person in the Houston area.

A limited number of evening and weekend appointments are available. Scheduling options are determined based on clinical need, availability, and the consultative nature of the practice.

  • To get started, you may complete the intake screening form through the Appointments section of the website at any time. As part of this process, you’ll have access to the scheduling calendar and may select a tentative appointment time.

Submitting the screening form and selecting a tentative time does not guarantee an appointment. All requests are reviewed to determine whether this practice is an appropriate fit. Once reviewed, the office will confirm the appointment or follow up if additional information or adjustments are needed.

No payment is required at the time of submitting the screening form.

  • Care is established after the initial evaluation and a shared determination that this consultative practice is an appropriate fit for your needs.

Following the first visit, we will discuss recommendations and next steps, including whether ongoing follow-up within this practice is clinically indicated or whether transition back to another provider would be more appropriate.

  • This practice is best suited for individuals and families seeking diagnostic clarity, thoughtful treatment planning, and collaborative decision-making when mental health concerns feel complex, overlapping, or unresolved despite prior care.

Because Reflective Psychiatry is an outpatient, consultative practice, certain needs—such as acute safety concerns, active substance use requiring structured treatment, eating disorders requiring specialized programs, or situations requiring higher levels of care—may be better supported in dedicated intensive settings.

  • Cancellations or rescheduling must be done at least 24 business hours in advance. Late cancellations and no-shows will be subject to the full appointment fee.

Please note, pre-payment of fees prior to the appointment is required fro each appointment.

This policy helps ensure availability for other patients and respects the time reserved for your care.

  • General questions and inquiries may be submitted through the Contact section of the website.

Established patients have access to secure messaging for non-urgent communication related to their care. Please note that this practice does not provide 24/7 messaging or emergency services.

  • No. Reflective Psychiatry is an outpatient practice and does not provide emergency or crisis services.

If you or a family member are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911, contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988, or go to the nearest emergency room.
